GTA 19-10-007: Doctrine SmartCard

Analysts from the Center for Army Lessons Learned, having observed numerous iterations of the Mission Command Training Program’s Warfighter Exercises and Combat Training Center rotations, have identified key doctrinal areas that most junior Soldiers and leaders routinely reference. These include areas relevant to Army planning and Army offensive and defensive operations. This quick reference aid aims to help Soldiers quickly identify and reference key doctrinal terms and steps in high operational tempo training environments.

This report provides a summary of the observations from three Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) collection events concerning Home Station Training (HST) from December 2015 - February 2016. The collection team interviewed a total of over 250 Soldiers and Leaders from one Corps Headquarters, two Division Headquarters, three Brigade Combat Teams, and seventeen Battalions/Squadrons. This collection report includes analysis from the I CORPS Stryker Assessment dated January 2016. This report has been sanitized to remove unit identification.

While combining Military Review and the Combat Studies Institute into one organization, we managed to reorganize personnel, develop new approaches to familiar processes, and welcome many more professionals into the fold. We transformed a thirteen-person staff into a robust team of forty-one writers, researchers, historians, instructors, editors, and web administrators.

As the deputy director of the Army University Press, I am sometimes required to perform the duties of interim editor in chief of Military Review. This is one of those times. Lt. Col. Erica Cameron, our former director, has been called away on an operational assignment, leaving me to fill the gap between her departure and the arrival of Col. Katherine Guttormsen, the next director of our journal, who is also fulfilling an operational assignment.
