General Mark A. Milley, Chief of Staff of the Army, has officially released his 2017 Professional Reading List. “We are the strongest land force in the world, and that strength is not only found in our physical prowess, but also in our intellectual capacity,” Milley said. The U.S. Army Chief of Staff's Professional Reading List is divided into three categories: Armies at War: Battles and Campaigns, The Army Profession, and Strategy and the Strategic Environment. Major General Michael Kurilla, commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division, Maj. Gen. Brian Alvin, commanding general of the 63rd Regional Support Command, and Maj. Gen. James Mingus, director of the Mission Command Center of Excellence, participate in the latest pilot command course, Army Strategic Education Program - Command (ASEP-C). The new course is given quarterly to Army officers who are heading toward division command (and equivalents) and is designed to instruct them on advanced warfighting concepts that align more with challenges of the future. With the addition of this course, the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center now delivers all pre-command related instruction at the battalion, brigade and division command levels. (Photo by Dan Neal)

Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. James C. McConville learns about the Stryker Virtual Collective Trainer (SVCT) during a visit to the Combined Arms Center - Training Innovation Facility (CAC-TIF). Combined Arms Center - Training Deputy Commanding General Maj. Gen. Maria Gervais accompanied Gen. McConville on the tour while Maj. Chris Finnigan (right) explained the benefits of the SVCT. At the CAC-TIF, Soldiers and civilians built the SVCT as part of a project to provide Stryker units with a simulator training capability.

Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army (VCSA) Gen. James C. McConville and Sergeant Major of the Army (SMA) Daniel A. Dailey hosted the Pre-Command Course (PCC) at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas The two, along with their wives Maria McConville and Holly Dailey, took question from the PCC and their spouses on Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Brig. Gen. Scott L. Efflandt, U.S. Army, Provost, Army University, Deputy Commandant, Command and General Staff College, addressed the students of CGSC for the first time after he became the second Provost of the Army University in August 2017. He served as the Deputy Commanding General (Maneuver) for the 1st Infantry Division prior to his current assignment.

The new school year for the Command and General Staff College is starting to get into action. Major James Kolky from OPS Group Bravo, discusses mission analysis with members of the 28th ECAB. The 28th ECAB attended mission command training from 24-28 July to prepare for WFX 18-1. Mission Analysis is the process by which the operating plan and contingency plans are developed. It includes organizing the team to meet the mission objectives, allocating resources to perform the critical tasks, and monitoring the team and the environment to adjust resources as necessary.

Members of Mission Command Training Program's Operations Group Foxtrot traveled to USAG Humphreys, South Korea this week to conduct a Mission Command Training (MCT) Seminar with staff members from 2nd Infantry Division's Combat Aviation Brigade. Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jesse Lee facilitated a workshop on the first two steps of the Military Decision Making Process, which included a discussion of trends witnessed across other brigades in previous Warfighter Exercises. This MCT seminar is designed to prepare units for their Warfighter Exercise by providing a doctrine refresher for the staff.

Colonel Edward Bohnemann, chief of staff for the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, addresses graduates of the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program at Fort Leavenworth Thursday, July 27. The program provides transitioning service members with management training and hands-on experience in the civilian workforce, expanding corporate America's understanding of the veteran job market and preparing those individuals for smooth transitions into meaningful civilian careers.
