Center for Army Lessons Learned military analyst Capt. David Beale (right) conducts an interview with Col. Michael J. Simmering, commander, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (3/4 ABCT) (center); and Sgt. Maj. Joseph J. Nicholson, 3/4 ABCT Operations Sergeant Major; as part of a post-deployment collection visit to Fort Carson, CO, Dec. 5, 2017. In January 2017, 3/4 ABCT, as the regionally allocated heavy brigade, deployed to support U.S. Army Europe and participate in Operation Atlantic Resolve. Lt. Gen. Michael Lundy participates in a panel to discuss how to harness new technologies to win in a complex world at the Interservice/ Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). I/ITSEC is the world's largest modeling, simulation, and training event and was held in Orlando Florida from 27 November to 1 December.

As part of the Army’s ongoing doctrine support to the Columbian Army (through ARSOUTH), Jim Benn (left), Deputy Director of the Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate (CADD), and Carlos Soto (second from right), Army Terminologist and Symbologist (CADD), met November 4-18 with 90 Colombian officers and non-commissioned officers who will be the primary authors of the 57 Field Manuals the Columbian Army will produce. On the final day of the exchange, in recognition of their work, GEN Alberto Mejia, Chief of Staff of the Colombian Army (second from left), and Colonel Jaime Alonzo (right), Director, Columbian Army Center of Doctrine and Education, presented Mr. Benn and Mr. Soto with plaques designating them as honorary members of the Army Staff. Additionally, copies of their portraits will be placed permanently in the HQ of the Colombian Center for Education and Doctrine. Finally, GEN Mejia announced the creation of an annual award for their best doctrine writer. The award is called the Benn and Soto award for excellence in doctrine development.

November 21, Mr. Mike Scully, Doctrine Writer, Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate (CADD), provided members of the Mission Command Battle Lab (MCBL), Capability Development Integration Directorate (CDID) with an overview of the Army’s new FM 3-0, Operations. He explained some of the key points of the analysis that went into the development of the new doctrine manual.

Lt. Gen. Michael D. Lundy, commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, addresses Tuesday's opening of the Combat Training Center Conference at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. At the conference, Army leaders discussed making training at the Combat Training Centers tougher and more realistic, including upgrades to Opposing Force integrated air defense systems.

Karl Schneider, deputy chief management officer for the Office of the Under Secretary of the Army, led two new Fort Leavenworth employees in the Civilian Oath of Office during a swearing-in ceremony at the Adjutant General building today. The event was part of a larger trip to Fort Leavenworth, which also included a visit to the National Simulation Center, addressing the Senior Leaders Class and an overbrief on the Army University.
