Basic Course Library
Director's Welcome
Congratulations on your decision to attend the Army Civilian Education System (CES) Basic Course (BC) Phase II (Resident)! This course uses a blended design of Internet-based distributed learning (dL) pre-requisite work followed by a rigorous residential phase. My charge to the BC Faculty is to create an environment in which every student has opportunities to become more self-aware and develop the knowledge, skills and abilities to become more effective leaders. Everything we do here at the BC is supported by approved Army doctrine and proven educational and leadership theories, and is grounded on these three learning methodology components:
Student-Centered:
The curriculum focuses on knowledge transference by incorporating the Army's Life Long Learning philosophy with the emphasis on leader development. This focus encourages students to exercise personal responsibility for professional and personal leader development.
Inquiry-Based:
The curriculum introduces students to "real world" challenges they may encounter in the workplace. Through collaborative learning opportunities students will develop new, or enhance existing, skill sets.
Experiential:
Using an experiential learning approach students practice new skills through activities and reflection in an adult-learning environment that minimizes risk and encourages immediate feedback.
To make your resident course experience as valuable as possible please take time before you arrive to review the Guided Doctrinal Readings. These excerpts from our Army's doctrine will introduce or refresh your knowledge on key foundational concepts that we will explore with you during BC Phase II (Resident). This file is available at the link below.
Guided Doctrinal ReadingsOnce again, congratulations and welcome to the Basic Course Phase II (Resident)!
