Command and General Staff College (CGSC) students and faculty gathered in the Arnold Conference Room, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., for a standing room only discussion on Russia's Power Projection in the "Grey Zone". The speakers leading the conversation were Brig. Gen. (R) Peter Zwack (via remote location) professor at NDU, Dr. Bob Baumann of CGSC, and director of CRELMO, Dr. Mahir Ibrahimov. The event on Sep. 12, 2017 was moderated by Dr. Prisco Hernandez of CGSC.

Brigadier General Scott L. Efflandt became the second Provost of the Army University in an assumption of responsibility ceremony at the Lewis and Clark Center Sept. 7, 2017. The outdoor ceremony was hosted by Mr. Kirby R. Brown, deputy to the commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center. Fort Leavenworth installed Efflandt as the Provost and as deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). Previous provost, Maj. Gen. John S. During the 108th Sustainment Brigade's MCT week on 14-18 August 2017, Mr. Van Noah of the University of North Carolina leads the unit in a Distribution Management Exercise. Lt. Col. Todd Alston, Deputy Chief of Operations Group (DCOG), of Operations Group Sierra facilitated the exercise, which is an experiential learning business simulation created by faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in early 1960s to demonstrate the principles of supply chain management. A debriefing session of roughly equivalent length typically follows to review the results of each team and discuss the lessons involved.

Peruvian Army Commander Gen. Luis H. Ramos Hume visited the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) and the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Ga. The primary focus of the visit was the institute's combined graduation of three courses; Interagency Crisis Action Planning Course, the Basic Enlisted Leadership Professional Development Course and the Cadet Leadership Development Course. Students represented the countries of Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Peru and the U.S.

The Association of the United States Army, United States Army Warrant Officer Association and the Army Senior Warrant Officer Council (ASWOC) commemorated the 99th birthday of the U.S. Army Warrant Officer on Aug. 23 in Arlington, Va. Chief Warrant Officer 5 Richard R. Kunz Jr., command chief warrant officer of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, is the chairman of the ASWOC, which serves as a senior leadership body to introduce, review, and address relevant issues concerning Army systems, policies and programs. The ASWOC frames and shapes initiatives, issues, requirements, and reviews and resolves issues to achieve Department of the Army level integration and synchronization. The ASWOC is comprehensive in nature and has representation from all three COMPOs (AD, ARNG, AR), operating forces and the generating force.

Lt. Gen Michael Lundy, U.S Army Combined Arms Center commanding general, takes time during his visit to Fort Leonard Wood to address officers and staff of the Engineer, Chemical and Military Police Captain's Career Courses. Lundy, speaking to a near capacity crowd in Lincoln Hall Auditorium, told the officers they were entering the most important position in the Army - company command. He engaged with the officers while talking about their roles in leading Soldiers, how to be most effective at the company level and about not being afraid to make mistakes in training. Following his presentation, Lundy answered questions from the officers about the way forward for the Army in current operations, future operations and how Maneuver Support fits into the equation. Strand, co-founder and managing partner of SHIFT, LLC. independent consultant, educator and presenter, was the guest speaker at this quarter’s SHARP Academy Professional Forum, which was entitled “Senior Leader Cultural Change – Building a World that Doesn’t Exist." Strand presented attendees with up-to-date research, case studies and strategies on understanding sex offenders from a criminal justice viewpoint.
