Advanced Operations Course (AOC)

The Advanced Operations Course (AOC) is a capstone course to the Common Core and provides officers with 100% completion of the Joint Professional Military Education 1 / Military Education Level 4 requirement. AOC prepares field grade officers to serve on battle staffs of operational level headquarters, to serve in key positions in battalion and brigade-size units, and to develop the professional skills and competencies they will require as senior field-grade leaders.

The Mission of CGSOC AOC is to educate and train field grade leaders to serve as staff officers and commanders with the ability to build teams, lead organizations and integrate Unified Land Operations with Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multi-national partners in complex and uncertain environments.

AOC-DL is a 12-month course conducted in a synchronous and asynchronous distance learning environment. The course is conducted in small groups of 16 students with one faculty facilitator. Students will typically “collaborate” online one night every other week and participate in several collaborative exercises. Students accomplish the same learning objectives as resident AOC students through online lessons, exams, written assignments, and collaboration for operational and tactical exercises.

The course is not self-paced. Students are required to follow a schedule, keep up with their classmates, and show progress within a fixed 12-month timeline.
