Lt. Gen Michael Lundy, U.S Army Combined Arms Center commanding general, takes time during his visit to Fort Leonard Wood to address officers and staff of the Engineer, Chemical and Military Police Captain's Career Courses. Lundy, speaking to a near capacity crowd in Lincoln Hall Auditorium, told the officers they were entering the most important position in the Army - company command. He engaged with the officers while talking about their roles in leading Soldiers, how to be most effective at the company level and about not being afraid to make mistakes in training. Following his presentation, Lundy answered questions from the officers about the way forward for the Army in current operations, future operations and how Maneuver Support fits into the equation. Russell W. Strand, co-founder and managing partner of SHIFT, LLC. independent consultant, educator and presenter, was the guest speaker at this quarter’s SHARP Academy Professional Forum, which was entitled “Senior Leader Cultural Change – Building a World that Doesn’t Exist." Strand presented attendees with up-to-date research, case studies and strategies on understanding sex offenders from a criminal justice viewpoint. Maj. Mihajlo Asceric' of the Serbian Army stands with the flag of his country shortly after posting it as part of this year's International Flag Ceremony in Eisenhower Auditorium of the Lewis and Clark Center. The event officially marks the opening of the 2017-2018 Command and General Staff Officer's Course. Asceric' is one of 119 international military students representing 91 countries, making it one of the largest concentrations of international military officers attending a military school in the world.

STE is a collective training environment that leverages the latest technology for optimized human performance within a multi-echelon, mixed-reality environment. Two books written by faculty at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) have been added to the Chief of Staff of the Army's 2017 Professional Reading List. The publications are “Concrete Hell: Urban Warfare From Stalingrad to Iraq” by Dr. Louis Di Marco and “Combat Ready?: The Eighth U.S. Army on the Eve of the Korean War” by Dr. Tom Hanson. These works are representative of the CGSC faculty's expertise in the military profession and underscore the importance of the professional military education Command and General Staff Officers' Course (CGSOC) graduates receive while assigned to Fort Leavenworth and the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center. Milley, Chief of Staff of the Army, has officially released his 2017 Professional Reading List. “We are the strongest land force in the world, and that strength is not only found in our physical prowess, but also in our intellectual capacity,” Milley said. Major General Michael Kurilla, commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division, Maj. Gen. Brian Alvin, commanding general of the 63rd Regional Support Command, and Maj. Gen. James Mingus, director of the Mission Command Center of Excellence, participate in the latest pilot command course, Army Strategic Education Program - Command (ASEP-C). The new course is given quarterly to Army officers who are heading toward division command (and equivalents) and is designed to instruct them on advanced warfighting concepts that align more with challenges of the future.
