NFTF: The Role of Religion in Columbia's Reconciliation

As the decades-long conflict between the Colombian military and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) comes to an end, the reconciliation process between these two warring factions presents a multitude of challenges. As Colombia’s national government attempts to expand its reach from urban areas into vast swaths of previously ungoverned rural territory, military, law enforcement and social services personnel will encounter a newly minted demilitarized zone populated by indigenous peoples suffering from illiteracy, poverty and the ravages of civil war.

NFTF: The Tropical Medicine Course CJTF-HOA for Medical Personnel Deployed to Africa

The endstate of the Military Tropic Medicine (MTM) Course is to increase force health protection (FHP) and troop readiness, just as FHP was a primary endstate for Britain and U.S. interests with regard to tropical diseases more than a century ago. A more immediate objective in achieving the endstate is to provide medical personnel with relevant knowledge and understanding to address medical issues specific to deployment areas, especially for those who may be a considerable distance from a military base.

NFTF: Training to Improve Basic Combat Skills

The purpose of this article is to illustrate how ROTC Cadet Command approached improving basic combat skills and fieldcraft through command emphasis, mission command, and the eight-step training model. While Cadet Command’s efforts are what inspired this document, the lessons and best practices are applicable for training programs for most junior Army leaders. This Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) document was produced with the cooperation and input of ROTC Cadet Command and ROTC Advanced Camp cadre and staff.

NFTF: U.S. Army Support to the ACOTA Program

This News from the Front article briefly discusses the African Contingency Operations Training and Assistance (ACOTA) program and the 1-153’s mission in support of ACOTA. Specifically, this paper provides an example of U.S. Forces deployed to Africa engaging in a train and assist role to prepare a Ugandan mortar platoon for its upcoming peacekeeping mission to Somalia. This article can be used by small unit leaders deploying to Africa to prepare themselves and their units for an ACOTA mission.

NFTF: U.S./Kenyan Marine Operations and Maintenance Seminar

In January 2016 the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) invited members of the Kenyan Navy to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti for a seminar focused on tactical operations and maintenance techniques. Hosting the Kenyan Navy was the Coastal Riverine Squadron 10 (FWD) and members of the Fusion Action Cell and D/403rd Civil Affairs. The event proved beneficial for both sides. Expertise and knowledge was exchanged with each side learning from each other and laid the ground work for future engagements.

SHARP Response Vol 1 Ver 1

The SHARP Academy functions as a leader in the Army’s efforts to build a culture of dignity and respect based on our Army values.

Special Operations Joint Task Force Handbook

This handbook consists of two parts for use by two distinct audiences. Section one, the SOJTF Employment Guide is an ?up and out? strategic communication for use by senior leaders and staff members who will find it useful when incorporating a SOJTF into campaign plans and contingency operations that involve large scale combat. Section two is a ?down and in? document aimed at SOJTF commanders and their staffs who can use the information as a checklist for developing SOJTF plans and policies when supporting the Joint Force in large scale combat at the operational level of war.

As we build better teams comprised of the right individuals, we improve the Army.
