Counseling Enhancement Tool

The Counseling Enhancement Tool (CET) promotes the professional development of junior NCOs by assisting them in having quality conversations with their Soldiers during the performance counseling process.

The CET provides guidance for interactive, collaborative, two-way conversations about Soldier development for the purpose of improved performance.

  • Part 1:
    • Preparation: The leader provides GTA 22-01-002, CET-Soldier, to the counselee along with a timeframe for completion. The Soldier completes each section by marking items as a Sustain or Improve along with any remarks in the identified areas. The leader completes GTA 22-01-003, CET-Leader, in the same fashion.
  • Part 2:
    • Conversation with Soldier: The leader and Soldier set aside time to review the CET. The CET guides the conversation using the information provided by the Soldier. The main purpose of the CET is to drive meaningful conversations between Soldiers and leaders by enabling two-way conversations. The leader should ask open-ended and clarifying questions balancing what they are observing as a leader and understanding the Soldier's perspective.
