Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) analysts recently traveled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in support of the U.S. Military Training Mission effort to assist the Saudi Armed Forces (SAF) in developing a lessons learned program. The CALL team provided briefings and facilitated discussions with a selected group of 33 SAF officers on the elements of a lessons learned program and how it can be used to improve operations, training, and education across their force.

CALL conducted a Lessons Learned Training Contact Team engagement at the Jordanian Center for Strategic Studies and Lessons Learned (JCSSLL) in Jordan, 7-9 January 2018. The team met with the new JCSSLL director, MG Mukhlid al-Zyood, and principal staff officers to provide briefings on CALL and the Army Lessons Learned Program, facilitate discussions on administering a LL program, and assist with collection planning for the Eager Lion exercise being held in April. This event was part of a long-standing partnership between the two organizations that began in 2010 and seeks to increase cooperation and interoperability between the JAF and the U.S. Army.

The Center for Army Lessons Learned recently deployed two analysts to Yerevan, Armenia, at the request of the U.S. Office of Defense Cooperation for a follow-on engagement to assist the Armenian Armed Forces in its adoption of mission command. The Armenian General Headquarters formed a Mission Command (MC) Task Force and is conducting a pilot program to determine how MC principles should be integrated into the force. Lessons and best practices from the pilot units are collected each quarter and used to make adjustments to the program. As part of this visit, CALL analysts provided a briefing on the military decision-making process with a focus on Step 4, Course of Action Analysis. The next engagement is tentatively scheduled for June 2017 to assist with the development of a formal lessons learned program for the Armenian Armed Forces.

Col. Yasutatsu Adachi, director of Japan Center for Ground Self-Defense Force Lessons Learned, conducted an orientation visit with Center for Army Lessons Learned. During his trip, Adachi met with the CALL director, deputy director, and division chiefs, strengthening collaboration between the U.S. Army and GSDF Lessons Learned centers. At the conclusion of the visit, Col. Michael Pappal, CALL director, presented Adachi with a plaque as a token of gratitude for the continued bond between the two organizations.
