During his visit to the Leavenworth area on 27 April, Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) spent time with COL Geoffrey Catlett to discuss the Army's Sexual Harassment/Abuse Response and Prevention (SHARP) program. Catlett is the Director for the SHARP Academy and had the opportunity to explain how the Army is combatting the unacceptable behavior through the use of Victim Advocates, and Sexual Assault Response Coordinators, who are trained at his school. The VAs and SARCs attend a seven week course then return to their units or organizations to manage the program and assist Soldiers or Department of the Army Civilians.
