Kansas Senator Jerry Moran visited Fort Leavenworth on Friday, April 22, 2016. He received a detailed briefing concerning numerous issues on the installation from Lt. Gen. Robert Brown, commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center. Other attendees of the meeting were Kirby Brown, deputy of the commanding general of U.S. Army Combined Arms Center; Lt. Gen. Robert Arter (Retired) civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army - Kansas; Maj. Gen. Victor Braden, commanding general of the 35th Infantry Division; and Brig. Gen. He provided attendees insight on human behavior when dealing with trauma. The event was presented by the Fort Leavenworth SHARP Resource Center and SHARP Academy.

The Kansas National Guard, in partnership with the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center SHARP Academy, conducted a professional forum with the theme of "Sexual Violence and the Civilian Criminal Justice System" at Tice Hall at Fort Leavenworth April 13. Maj. Gen. Victor Braden led the discussion on how the interaction with victims of sexual violence proceeds in a criminal case in the civilian justice system.

Maj. Gen. Mark J. O'Neil, commanding general of Combined Arms Center -- Training, conducted the Civilian Oath of Office for six new Fort Leavenworth employees today. The new hires in today's ceremony included Robert Flaxman, Munson Army Health Center; Robert Harris, Mission Command CDID; Janelle Heiser, CAC LD&E; Julianne Parton, CAC G8; Jake Willis, TRADOC Analysis Center; and Randy Ymker, DPTMS.

Members of the Lawton/Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce posed for a group photo at the bust of Lt. Henry Flipper. Flipper was the first black officer to graduate from the United States Military Academy after the Civil War. Following his commission in 1877, Flipper was assigned to Fort Sill, Okla., where he is credited with reducing malaria by creating a drainage ditch to control stagnant water, thereby reducing the mosquito breeding area. The bust of Flipper is located in the Circle of Firsts at the Buffalo Soldier Monument.
