The Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) recently just graduated 31 Majors from the first "pilot" of a Command and General Staff School (CGSS) elective - A344 Army Lessons Learned for S3's and XO's. The course started on 27 March and graduated on 28 April 2015. The elective addressed the Tactical S3's and XO's roles and responsibilities in the Army Lessons Learned Process. Upon completion of this course and Command and General Staff College (CGSC) graduation, students will be prepared to implement the Army's Lessons Learned Program throughout the operations process in their next assignment and organization. The course was developed by CALL and sponsored by the Department of Army Tactics (DTAC). DTAC recognized the power of lessons learned, especially coming out of this decade of war, and wanted to add it to their arsenal of tactically focused courses. In addition to the lessons learned fundamentals, the course also trained the future S3's and XO's in the operation and implementation of the new Department of Defense (DoD) system of record for observations, lessons and best practices - the Joint Lessons Learned Information System (JLLIS). All of this training will provide the tools to allow our Operational Army the benefit of increased performance and efficiency by formalizing the way we operate vice discovery learning.
