Over There with the AEF

An American Officer in France, 1917-1918

CSI Press is pleased to announce the publication of Over There with the AEF: The World War I Memoirs of Captain Henry Evans, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces. This publication marks the first time CSI Press has published a memoir of any kind, but the story of Henry Evans justifies such a break with tradition. Evans left college to drive ambulances for the French Army in early 1917, and then received a commission in the US Army when the United States entered the war later that year. His memoir offers important historical details about the first US Army unit to fight on the Western Front. Evans’ account, however, also vividly relates the experiences of a young officer learning how to lead soldiers in wartime. Most importantly, his stories highlight the valor of the exhausted and mostly inexperienced men with whom he served. After 97 years, the story of Henry Evans and his men deserves to be remembered.
