2015 Veterans Day at the National World War I Museum and Memorial.

Brig. Gen. John Kem, Army University provost and deputy commanding General at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., presented the Bronze Star Medal to 1st Lt. Richard Scheerer in a Veterans Day ceremony at the National World War I Museum and Memorial. Scheerer was wounded in July 1944 during the allied advance through France and never received the award. Scheerer was also awarded the French Legion of Honor, the highest award given to non-French military personnel.
