Guest Speaker - Congressman Jerry Moran
Kansas Representative - 1st District

Tuesday, January 13, 2009
Congressman Jerry Moran, representative from the 1st district of Kansas,  addressed the students, staff and faculty of the Combined Arms Center and Command and General Staff College January 13 in Eisenhower Auditorium.  He discussed numerous issues ranging from the economy to veterans benefits and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He expressed how important it is for members of the military to be forthright with their elected officials and to provide the much needed opinions that assist them (Congress) in decision making.  “Most members of Congress have not been in the military … we trust your judgment and want your opinion,”  he said.
Moran used more than half his presentation time to address questions from the students in the audience.  He focused his comments on the challenges facing the new 111th Congress and his views and perceptions on the challenges ahead.  Specifically he emphasized his commitment to veteran's issues and his high regard for the military. “We need a Congress that is of the same caliber of the people who serve in the Armed Forces,” he said.

Moran closed by expressing his gratitude and thanks to all members of the military and their families. “What you do matters, certainly more than Congress … my family and I owe a debt of gratitude to you.”
