Once logged in to JANE'S, you'll see lots of buttons. The most commonly used buttons are "Search" and "Image Search". You'll also see several Jane's products on the left side of the screen that you can click on. By clicking on one of them, you'll open that product in a new window. Click on "Sentinel Library" to open "Jane's Sentinel Country Risk Assessments". You'll notice an interactive map in the image below. You can select a region from the map or the list on the left side of the screen. USING MILITARY PERISCOPEOnce logged in to Military Periscope, you'll find a search box with a dropdown menu located near the top of the page.
This is a simple way to quickly search through all of Periscope's holdings or to narrow your search to parts of their collections. By selecting "Military Periscope" from the dropdown menu, you will search all of Military Periscope's databases. This can produce fairly unorganized results. If you're looking for a particular weapon system, just type in the name of the weapon system. and choose "Weapons Only Database" from the dropdown menu. If you're looking for a particular country, select the "Nations Only Database" from the dropdown menu. You can also browse through the collections by clicking on any of the categories on the left side of the page. Military Periscope is a good source for public domain (not under copyright) images of weapons systems. DTIC'S PUBLIC STINET DATABASEACCESSING DTIC's ADVANCED SEARCHDTIC's Advanced Search is available at the following url: http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/search/advanced_search.html. It is a public database, accessible from any computer with an internet connection. You can also find a link to it on CARL's Military Databases page at http://usacac.army.mil/cac2/cgsc/carl/databases/db_data.asp USING DTIC's ADVANCED SEARCHDTIC's Advanced Search is in a period of transition as it continues to add search capabilities. When the search functionality becomes more stable, this tutorial will be updated with screenshots and search strategies.
