Nurture your child with the love of reading by attending a Storytime session! These 45 minutes to an hour programs are recommended for ages 3 and older but younger children are also welcomed. All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Storytime is every Wednesday morning at 10:00. Storytime goes on hiatus during the summer and holiday breaks. There are more children’s programs scheduled throughout the year. Visit the CARL community webpage regularly to find out what is going on in your library.
The Children's Library is located on the second floor of the Combined Arms Research Library. The collection includes picture books for pre-schoolers and fiction and non-fiction for elementary and middle-school students. The library also has a selection of children's videos and DVD’s that are located in front of the circulation desk on the first floor. The young adult titles are shelved just outside the Children's Room. The CARL is continually updating and adding to the Teen book collection to keep current with reading trends among teens, such as fantasy and graphic novels.
We are also the home of the Army Community Service Collection. This is a specialized collection of books and CDs selected to help military families. Subjects covered include: finances, deployment, job resumes, and parenting. These are on the first floor, next to the DVD collection, located in front of the circulation desk.
The CARL materials come in many formats, including books (bestsellers, fiction, non-fiction, science fiction and mysteries), popular books on tape or CDs, movie videos and DVDs (classic and children's videos and the latest blockbuster releases), popular magazines and major newspapers. The library also provides electronic information like: full text magazines and newspaper databases available both in the library and on the Internet through our Find Articles page
