The School of Advanced Military Studies educates members of our Armed Forces, our Allies, and the Interagency at the graduate level to become agile and adaptive leaders who are critical and creative thinkers who produce viable options to solve operational and strategic problems.


We develop effective planners who help senior leaders understand the operational environment and then visualize and describe viable solutions to operational problems.

Graduates of the Advanced Military Studies Program
  1. Are critical and creative thinkers grounded in operational theory, doctrine, and history
  2. Can identify problems and propose viable solutions
  3. Can clearly communicate to various audiences orally, graphically, and writing
  4. Are good leaders and great teammates who collaborate effectively to get the job done
  5. Have the courage to lead from above, beside, and below
  6. Are physically and mentally tough
  7. Are humble professionals who are more than they seem
