Department of Military History Lecture Series
Selected Topics: World War II

In cooperation with the Dole Institute of Politics, the Department of Military History is presenting a series of ten lectures on World War II. Each lecture focuses on significant, but sometimes lesser known, aspects of America’s largest war. 

This lecture series will be presented by scholars from the Department of Military History.  There will be a question-and-answer period following each lecture. 

This is a yearlong lecture series. All of the following lectures will take place at 3 PM at the Dole Institute:

  • Feb 7: John Suprin – “The Soviet-Finnish Winter War.”
  • Mar 7: Dr. John T. Kuehn – “War on the Atlantic – Not Battle of: Misconceptions and Clarifications.”
  • Apr 4: Dr. Joseph R. Fischer – “Surrender: It’s Good for You (Tactical PsyOp in WWII).”
    Changed to: “Playing Mind Games: Tactical PsyOp in WWII.”
  • May 2: Dr. Jonathon M. House – “How the Red Army Defeated Germany: The Three Alibis.”
  • Jun 6: Dr. Louis A. Dimarco – “Eisenhower, Operation TORCH, and U.S. Military Government Policy”
  • Jul 11: Dr. Janet G. Valentine – “Who Then Will Do the Mending?:  Women in Military Service in WWII.”
  • Aug 1: Dr. Gary J. Bjorge – “Stilwell’s 1944 Northern Burma Campaign: The Challenge of Coalition Warfare in the CBI Theater.”
  • Sep 5: Dr. James H. Willbanks – “World War II in the Aleutians, 1942-1943.”
  • Oct  3: Dr. Gregory Hospodor – “Bitter Victory?: The Allied Campaign for Sicily Revisited.”
  • Nov 7: Dr. John Curatola – “Whirlwinds of Flame:  The Strategic Bombing of Japan in World War II.”
