convoys (naval)
Definition/Scope: A number of merchant ships or naval auxiliaries, or both, usually escorted by warships and/or aircraft, or a single merchant ship or naval auxiliary under surface escort, assembled and organized for the purpose of passage together. (2) An accompanying and protecting force, as of ships or troops. (3) A group, as of ships or motor vehicles, traveling together with a protective escort or for safety or convenience.
