Definition/Scope: (JP 6-0) C4, as a joint term, has been discontinued by JP 6-0 as of 20 March 2006. The proper term is communications system. JP 6-0 deconstructs the acronym “C4ISR” into its component parts: “command and control (C2)," "communications system,” and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).” Only the component being discussed is appropriately referenced. OLD VERSION: Integrated systems of doctrine, procedures, organizational structures, personnel, equipment, facilities, and communications designed to support a commander's exercise of command and control through all phases of the operational continuum.
