combat arms

Definition/Scope: Branch of Army whose officers are directly involved in the conduct of actual fighting. These include: Infantry, Field Artillery, Air Defense Artillery, Armor, Aviation, Corps of Engineers, and Special Forces. FM 3-0 Rescinded the terms combat arms, combat support, and combat service support. Users are to use the appropriate warfighting function to describe unit types and functions.
