Chief Warrant Officer
Definition/Scope: Army, Navy, and Marine Corps ranks in pay grades W-1 (Navy) W-2, W-3, W-4, W-5. In the Army and Marine Corps W-1 are called warrant officers. In the Navy, all warrant officers, regardless of grade, are referred to a Chief Warrant Officer. In all Service branches, a warrant officer is a technician of such highly specialized skill as to merit rank without the general command responsibilities normally assigned to commissioned officers.
