Definition/Scope: A general term, usually referring collectively to gunpowder weapons (cannon) too large to be hand-carried, although all large, pre-gunpowder devices for firing missiles may be considered artillery. Equipment, supplies, ammunition, and personnel involved in the use of cannon, rocket, or surface-to-surface missile launchers. Cannons are classified according to caliber as: light--120mm and less; medium--121-160mm; heavy--161-210mm; very heavy--greater than 210mm.
