hand grenade M69

Definition/Scope: (FM 3-23.30) The M69 practice hand grenade simulates the M67-series of fragmentation grenades for training purposes. The M69 provides realistic training and familiarizes the Soldier with the functioning and characteristics of the fragmentation hand grenade. The components of the M69 are: a steel sphere body, with NO filler, the fuse is an M228, which is inserted into the grenade body, and weighs 14 ounces. The average soldier can throw the M69 hand grenade 40 meters. After a delay of 4 to 5 seconds, the M69 emits a small puff of white smoke and makes a loud popping noise. The grenade body can be used repeatedly by replacing the fuse assembly. The M69 is light blue with white markings. The safety lever of the fuse is light blue with black markings and a brown tip. WARNING Fuse fragments may exit the hole in the base of the grenade body and cause injuries.
