request for forces

Definition/Scope: A request for forces (RFF) is a request from a unit in order to perform a mission that exceeds their current capabilities. It could be a request for either equipment or personnel. (FM 3-28) When validated, the request for forces becomes an order to the supporting combatant commanders to provide the forces. In support of this process, the Army Service component commander coordinates with Department of the Army and United States Army Forces Command (for most Army units) concerning required capabilities.
