organic (organizational)

Definition/Scope: (JP 1-02) Assigned to and forming an essential part of a military organization. Organic parts of a unit are those listed in its table of organization for the Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps, and are assigned to the administrative organizations of the operating forces for the Navy. Na example could be where an infantry battalion has the organic weapons to provide its own security whereas a light truck transportation battalion may not. Another example is when a CONUS unit may have its own organic security force but AN OCONUS unit may have to contract out for its security.
