Persian Gulf states
Definition/Scope: The term Persian Gulf States is used to describe the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) which includes Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. While Iraq is a state the borders the Persian Gulf and is in the Arab region it is not considered as a member because the other states are monarchial oil states. Unique to these states is that they share a regional culture, they have hereditary monarchies and all led by Sunni Muslim regimes.
