Counterintelligence /Human Intelligence Automated Tool Set

Definition/Scope: The Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence Automated Tool Set (CHATS) is an Army managed hardware suite consisting of a processor, peripherals, and communications that are designed to meet the requirements of Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence (CI/HUMINT) teams operating in the field. CHATS provides intelligence teams the capability to control and analyze information obtained through investigations, interrogations, and collections operations while providing automated intelligence and information management. This includes interface data handling to meet time and accuracy reporting requirements for counterintelligence/human intelligence, force protection-related decision support and operations planning and execution. CHATS is composed of a laptop computer complimented with scanner, digital camera, color printer, Precision Lightweight Global Positioning System Receiver (PLGR), Secure Telephone Unit (STU) 1910 for secure data communications, external Zip drive, Special Purpose-Tactical Communications Interface Module (SP-TCIM), and a "Toby" cable used to connect CHATS to the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGARS). Using the CHASIS software suite, the system provides agents the capability to manage assets and analyze information collected through investigations, interrogations, collection, and document exploitation. With CHATS, CI units may electronically store collected information in a local database, associate information with digital photography, and transmit/receive information over existing military and civilian communications. The CHATS provides these functions primarily with COTS software operating in a laptop computer within a hardened transport case. The CHATS is assigned one per CI/HUMINT team and its primary function is to send intelligence to the Counterintelligence/Interrogator Operations Workstation (CI/I Ops WS). CHATS can receive intelligence and information from the CI/I Ops WS and the ASAS Remote Workstation (RWS).
