Air Rescue Service

Definition/Scope: A former subcommand of the Military Air Transport Service (MATS), a major command of the United States Air Force. On 1 Jan 1966, MATS was redesignated as the Military Airlift Command and ARS was redesignated as the Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service (ARRS). Use Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Service. The MAC was reorganized and inactivated on 01 June 1992. The subsequent command is the Air Mobility Command (AMC).
