economic assistance

Definition/Scope: Economic assistance is the assistance given to other nations for humanitarian reasons and to possibly advance a countries foreign policy. The assistance can take many forms such as money, goods, services and technical expertise. There are several agencies that are involved in the distribution of economic assistance. Some examples are the Department of Defense and Department of State give military assistance while the USAID distributes the government's development and food assistance. The Department of Agriculture also provides food aid.
