Definition/Scope: (AR 190-30) Military magistrate: A person authorized to issue a search authorization upon probable cause, in accordance with the Military Rules of Evidence and AR 27–10. U.S. magistrate: Federal judicial officer having jurisdiction and authority to hear and determine certain matters involving violations of Federal law.
