mechanized infantry
Definition/Scope: (FM 3-21.7) Mechanized infantry are infantry soldiers that have infantry fighting vehicles eg. BFV. These vehicles offer some sort of armor protection to allow the soldiers to get closer to the battle prior to dismounting. Mechanized infantry normally operate as part of a larger force. They will benefit from having support of armor, artillery, mortars and close air support among others. This type of infantry being mechanized is able to respond to the battle tempo or operational picture quicker than standard infantry.
