Definition/Scope: On 18 July 1914 Congress created an aviation section section within the Signal Corps. This aviation section was to operate and supervise all military "Army" aircraft. On 24 May 1918 the War Department recohnized the Bureau of Aircraft Production and the Division of Aeronautics. On 26 July 1947 the National Security Act created the Air Force.
