UN Support Mission in Haiti
Definition/Scope: The Security Council established the United Nations Support Mission in Haiti (UNSMIH) by its resolution 1063 (1996) of 28 June 1996. In setting up UNSMIH, the Council underlined the need to support the commitment of the Government of Haiti to maintain the secure and stable environment established by the Multinational Force in Haiti (September 1994--March 1995) and extended with the assistance of the United Nations Mission in Haiti (UNMIH) which drew to a close on 30 June 1996.
