Definition/Scope: A radio detection device that provides information on range, azimuth and/or elevation of objects. (2) An acronym formed from radio detection and ranging; developed just before WWII (by scientists on both sides of that conflict, although much credit belongs to the British scientist Robert Watson-Watt).
