penetrating radiation

Definition/Scope: General term used to describe external radiations with sufficient penetrating power that the absorbed doses from exposure to humans are delivered in significant quantities to tissues and organs other than the skin. Refers to most gamma radiation, x radiation (excluding those with very low energy), and neutron radiation.
