nonappropriated funds

Definition/Scope: ( AR 215-1 ) Nonappropriated funds is that cash and other assets derived from sources other than Congressional appropriations, primarily the sale of goods and services to DOD personnel and their Family members that are used by the NAFI to support or provide authorized programs. NAFs are Government funds used for the collective benefit of those who generate them. These funds are separate and apart from funds that are recorded in the books of the Treasurer of the United States.
