Definition/Scope: The Army restructured from a division-based to a brigade-based force — the modular force. The modular force brigades are strategically flexible. The major combat and support capabilities a brigade needs for most operations are organic to its structure. Each BCT has one or more organic combat engineer companies, whose primary focus include supporting combined arms countermobility operations. This was the basic step for the Army transformation process
