Definition/Scope: Officially, Republic of Macedonia, a country of the southern Balkans (from 1918 to 1991 part of Yugoslavia). It is bordered on the north by the Yugoslav republic of Serbia, on the east by Bulgaria, on the south by Greece, and on the west by Albania. The capital is Skopje.
