Definition/Scope: Those regions relating to or existing on a shore or coastal region, within direct control of and vulnerable to the striking power of naval expeditionary forces. (2) Seaward: Area from the shore to open ocean that must be controlled to support operations. (3) Landward: Area inland from shore that can be supported and defended directly from the sea.
