initial brigade combat teams

Definition/Scope: The force structure of two US Army combat brigades in the initial phase of the transformation of the US Army to the Objective Force. IBCTs are the conduit between the Legacy Force and the Objective Force. Fittingly, they are the centerpiece of the Interim Force as they are a blending of the desirable qualities of contemporary Heavy and Light Forces fitted with select automation and digitization products from the Force XXI initiative.
