Active Denial System

Definition/Scope: The Active Denial System (ADS) ACTD is a non-lethal, counter personnel, line of sight directed energy weapon, using a controllable millimeter-wave beam to produce an irresistible heating sensation on the adversary's skin causing an immediate deterrence effect. Operation application include area denial, force protection, maneuver support, and escalation of force management with reliable effects well beyond small arms range. The ADS is the first directed energy non-lethal weapon to be ready for fielding by DoD.
