Department of Command and Leadership

The Department of Command and Leadership is one of six teaching departments of the Command and General Staff School of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth Kansas.


MISSION: Prepare Field Grade officers to lead and command organizations and serve as a source of leadership expertise within the military.


VISION: A world class teaching organization that models critical thinking and life-long learning, preparing field grade officers to improve organizations while operating to accomplish the mission.

Recently, Faculty and students attended the Raphael Lemkin Center for the Prevention of Genocide located at the Auschwitz Institute for Peace and Reconciliation in Poland. The main goal is to bring together policymakers and personnel from around the world for training in the most effective strategies for preventing genocide and violent conflict

University of Kansas Students visit CGSC

 Recently KU students visited Command and General Staff College's Department of Command and Leadership. The 2011 Military and the Media Program is an ongoing effort involving KU and CGSC. The course is designed to provide insights for building professional relationships, and a better understanding of how the media and military can work together. For many of the students, it's the first opportunity to work with military officers and gain an understanding of the military culture.
