First Deputy Prime Minister of Defense of Georgia, Vladimer Chachibaia, is a 2003 graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He discussed the key lessons from the 2008 conflict between Georgia and Russia. His presentation included a brief orientation to the region, an overview of the military action, and a review of key lessons by function. During the question and answer session, Mr. Chachibaia listed two critical priorities for the Georgian military in the wake of the recent conflict: better professional education for Georgian military leaders and a more effective military personnel system to "put the right leaders in the right place at the right time." Mr. Chachibaia also highlighted the challenges of training an armed force for all aspects of full-spectrum operations.  |
